Swinging Arm / Suspension Unit
including main wheel and final drive sprocket. Cassius II has variable height
suspension , the swinging arm pivot shaft doubles as the chain drive countershaft.
The chains are racing Go-cart D.I.D Gold with standard sprockets 91 teeth
, The hubbs are home built from duralumin.

Right hand Side
showing Motor and swinging arm in position. The motor is a Bosch 12v 400
watt running on 24 volts (thats cruel but it works for a short time anyway).
George is working on the speed control at the moment (but he won't tell
me how it's going to work, so I can't tell you)

Cassius 2 (perched
on the milling machine, this is not a secret weapon to destroy Killalot)
Shows the suspension off to good effect. The air bag (blue) under front
end of swinging arm will be inflated with low pressure gas (co2) to raise
the chassis for increased ground clearance.

Front Suspension
The main front wheels (white) can be seen between the two blue airbags.
The swinging arm is made from aircraft dural, and is hinged at the front
end. The airbags for both front and main wheels is lay-flat fire-type hose,
sealed at the ends by clamps. |
We will try to update this technical page periodically with
more photos and we will tell you of the problems we encounter
because we get a lot of them cropping up all the time.
The project is at an exiting stage and will shortly be on all its
wheels and ready for power tests. The weapons are only existing
on the computer as yet but they look O.K and should be better
than last year. (More tricks and power). I hope to get going on
the project shortly but this thing called work keeps pissing up
the schedual. The other piece of gear being made in the workshop
at the moment are some electronic sensors for my friend Trevor
Jones yacht (another charity job). He's going to sail to the
Australian Olympics and can only move his head as he is
tetraplegic (no leg or hand movement) due to a broken neck. I've
already converted his aeroplane so he can fly it solo with head
and upper arm control only.(C.A.A. regulations are worse than
Robot War's reg's). He's a bloody good pilot and far better than
I am without such a handicap. and he's a hero in my eyes.
